After several years of trying to grow and cultivate lavender, I was able to grow a mature plant from seed. Our damp, clay type soil makes it difficult to grow in this region. However, it’s not impossible. Lavender must have well drained, low fertile soil, using pebble and bonemeal to amend. It prefers an alkaline soil with a pH no higher than 6.5. Mature plants peak in their third year producing about 1000 stems.
